Cita de orientación para universidades y carreras

Remember to complete your pre-meeting questionnaire at LEAST 48 hours prior to your 1:1 appointment with a counselor. This helps your counselor prepare for your questions and provides assurance you will attend. The pre-meeting questionnaire will be included in your email confirmation from our booking platform Calendly.

FAQ's Regarding 1:1 Appointments:

Does it cost money?

No, all of our services are at no cost to CUSD students.

How do I schedule a one-on-one appointment?

You can schedule an appointment on this page! Watch the slideshow to review which of the 3 scheduling options currently available will work best for you.

Do I need to complete anything prior to my appointment?

Yes one form. In order for us to provide a personalized experience you MUST complete a Pre-Meeting Questionnaire before your appointment (at least 48 hours before to avoid cancellation).

How long is an appointment?

Our sessions are typically 30-45 minutes long depending on the topic or amount of questions we can address.

How far in advance can I schedule an appointment?

Appointments can be scheduled up to 30 days out on the calendar.

Which email should I include when I set up an appointment?

We recommend all communications use student email when possible. This helps students take responsibility for their own college & career planning process. If you want the confirmation to go to a parent email please provide parent email.

Is there a phone number where you can be reached?

We are constantly meeting with families, conducting group workshops, or travelling between our office locations therefore we are not available to be contacted via phone. The best way to contact us is through our email cusd-futureology@capousd.org.

How do I cancel my one-on-one appointment or group workshop?

Please refer to your confirmation email and click on the “cancel or reschedule” link. As a courtesy to the counselors and other students for one-on-one appointments, please cancel at least 48 hours in advance. If you cancel less than 48 hours prior to your one-on-one appointment, you will be forfeiting one of your future appointments for the year.

What if I cancel my one-on-one appointment?

Space is limited therefore we cannot guarantee that you will be able to find another appointment right away.

If you cancel or no-show multiple times, you may be ineligible for another appointment until the following semester.

What if I miss my one-on-one appointment?

Provided you cancel 48 hours in advance, you should be able to reschedule, however it could be a month or more before you are seen by one of our counselors. For your convenience, we send out multiple reminders. If you “no-show,” then you may forfeit future appointments.

When should I schedule a follow up one-on-one appointment?

Action items must be completed before scheduling a follow-up session. Your counselor will explain this in depth during your appointment.

Do my parents need to be there (or does my child need to come)?

Our sessions are meant to support the student therefore if your student cannot attend you must reschedule. Students MUST be present for one-on-one appointments. Parents: if you have questions please join us for our webinar events (including our Parent Admissions Bootcamp) rather than taking up a one-on-one appointment without your student. Parents can also use the Ask A Counselor button on the homepage to ask time-sensitive questions and our team can respond appropriately.

Can I schedule more than 1 one-on-one appointment at a time?

No, our sessions are based on milestone action items, therefore we encourage families to schedule subsequent appointments only after they have completed the action items. Due to limited space, students can hold one appointment in our calendar at a time. If multiple appointments are made, we will cancel at our discretion.

When are you available?

We are available for one-on-one appointments during the academic school year, August through June, Monday - Friday from 8am - 5:30pm. Certain grade levels have priority during the school year and we spread our availability across 3 different types of 1:1 offerings.

Do you have a waitlist for appointments?

No, however you can check back frequently on www.cusd-futureology.org/appointments-events to see if there are openings due to cancellations.

Can I just drop in?

No, in order to best serve our students (and manage our space requirements), we require scheduled one-on-one appointments. For more information on our office hours while on campus please view the schedule at your high school.

Is there a limit on how many one-on-one appointments I can have?

Yes, we try to limit per grade level based on our resource availability of our counselors. Juniors and Seniors will have priority in the fall. Visit www.cusd-futureology.org/appointments-events to schedule an appointment and view availability. We highly recommend attending group events in order to continue getting support for all your college and career needs.

Can I get help with picking my classes or making my four-year plan?

The Guidance team at your school is your best source for the type of assistance such as high school course scheduling, graduation requirements, credit check, and four-year planning. If course selection comes up during our session, we typically will only help explore options based on your college and career goals.

Can I request a specific counselor or meet with the same counselor if I met with her once already?

You will always meet with the same counselor assigned to your high school campus. Initial appointments are made randomly through our virtual and mall office appointment systems however, please be assured that any of our counselors can easily pick up where the other left off. During the initial meeting the counselor will provide instructions on how to make a follow-up appointment with them (also listed at the bottom of your ACTION checklist).
